Step 1: Install Connected App

Ask Swantide to install the Gong app from the AppExchange (found here).

Note that you need to be a System Admin in Salesforce to install the connected app. If you are not a Salesforce Admin, please contact Swantide. Additionally, full functionality in the app requires the Enterprise Edition of Salesforce.

Step 2: Connect your Salesforce

Log into Gong from this link to connect your Salesforce to Gong. Alternatively, if you’re already logged into Gong, follow the screenshots below:

Click on your name in the top right hand corner, then click on settings. Scroll down to Ecosystem, and then click on Integrations.

Click on Salesforce, and then click connect. This will take you to a landing page where you can 1) connect your Salesforce account, 2) determine which fields to import from Salesforce, and 3) determine which calls to export to Salesforce.

Step 3: Select which fields to import from Salesforce

Navigate to the Salesforce landing page if you aren’t there already (Settings -> CRM -> Salesforce). Select the relevant fields that you’d like to import across accounts, contacts, opportunities, and leads.

It’s important to note how Salesforce imports Opportunity values into Salesforce. It is not possible to update opportunity values in Gong and have them reflected in the Salesforce ARR field. This is because the Salesforce ARR field is a calculated field based on the Opportunity Products, which is technically a separate object in Salesforce’s data model. Gong (as well as other third party tools) are not configured to sync with calculated amount fields in this way. This is by design, as this approach is used by more robust CPQ platforms that are too complex to fully integrate with other tools.

As a workaround, we suggest creating a separate field in Salesforce to represent the ‘forecasted amount’ that syncs in from Gong. Any changes that reps make in Gong to the opportunity value will switch to this field. However, the source of truth for ARR in the pipeline will live in Salesforce, and will be calculated by adding products to the opportunity there.

Please let Swantide know if you would like this field to be created in your Salesforce.

Step 4: Export to Salesforce

Navigate to the Salesforce landing page if you aren’t there already (Settings -> CRM -> Salesforce). Confirm that there is a green checkbox next to “Gong for Salesforce is Installed”.

Note: If you want Gong calls to show in the activities section of the associated records in Salesforce, make sure that ‘Create Salesforce tasks when calls are processed is checked. We would suggest checking this box prior to pushing call data to Salesforce.

In Swantide’s page layouts, this is the central panel that shows associated calls, emails, and calendar events. The task will include the call transcript, a link to the call in Gong, and it will attempt to parse out action items from the call in the task details as well.

Otherwise, Gong call data will only appear in the Salesforce connected app (note how it says Gong.io in the top right hand corner, instead of ‘Sales’, which is where the rest of your data in Salesforce lives).

Select the date range of calls you want to push into Salesforce. Note that depending on call volume, it may take several days for all legacy calls to get passed through to Salesforce. However, new call data should be passed through to Salesforce automatically moving forward.
