Salesforce has a ‘Lead Source’ field on the Account, Contact, and Opportunity object. By default, the lead source values are isolated and do not carry over from one object to another. For example, you might create an Account and its first Contact after meeting them at a Trade Show, and add more Contacts to Salesforce after they fill out a ‘Contact Us’ form on your website. Which value should show up on the Opportunity’s lead source?

Salesforce will require you to fill out the Opportunity Lead Source by default. Swantide has built an automation that will pull the lead source from the Opportunity’s Primary Contact Role and automatically assign that value to the Opportunity Lead Source. This reduces the number of manual steps required to track this data and helps ensure that the correct value is being filled out.
