Contact roles allow you to indicate what role a Contact plays on an Opportunity. The Swantide default Contact Roles are:
Contact roles are especially helpful when you have many Contacts on an Account, and only some of them are actually involved with an Opportunity.
Even if all Contacts on an Account are involved with an Opportunity, it can still make sense to use Contact Roles. Contact Roles are the way that Contact records are associated with Opportunities. If there’s data on a Contact object that you want to associate with Created or Closed Won Opportunities (e.g. UTM values if you don’t use a marketing automation platform, first meeting date, etc.), the Contact will need to be added as a Contact Role.
See this short video explaining how to add Contacts to Contact Roles, and why it’s helpful to do so.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to a limitation with how Salesforce workflows account for existing records that meet this criteria, this workflow will only apply for opportunities moving forward. Please follow the steps below immediately after implementing this workflow to avoid any disruptions regarding legacy records:

Click "Save & Run."
Export the report using the carrot in the right hand corner of the report.
In excel, change the value in the "Number of Contact Roles" column to "1" *note: for the flow to work, the actual number here does not matter, just as long as it's greater than 0.
Import using the "Update" function at app.swantide.com/transfer. (Article on how to use Swantide's transfer tool).
